Privacy
Your poems are saved in your browser, on your device. They only leave it when you use one of the features below that needs them to.
The story workshop works the same way, so wherever this page says poems, read stories too.
Kept on your device
Your poems, drafts, collections, notes and settings, the submissions you log, and the contact details you type for a manuscript. There's no account, so there's no copy anywhere else. That also means clearing your browser's data for this site deletes them, so export a backup now and then (Export → Backup).
For each draft, your browser also keeps a record of how it was written: how many words were typed, pasted or brought in, or put in with a button, over how many sittings and days, how many versions you saved, and how often you asked the AI reader. It holds numbers and dates, not your words. It starts the day it first sees the draft, goes into your backup files, and stays until you delete the draft or clear this site's data. None of it is sent anywhere.
When something leaves your device
- AI feedback, chat, comparisons and suggestions: the poem goes to my server and on to OpenAI, which writes the reply. OpenAI doesn't use text sent this way to train its models. A background made from a description sends that description the same way.
- Looking up a word (rhymes, synonyms, a definition): only that word is sent, to Datamuse or the Free Dictionary API.
- Sharing a link: the poem is written into the link itself. It isn't stored anywhere, and only people you send the link to can read it.
- Moving from the old address: your drafts pass directly between two tabs in your browser. They don't go through my server.
- Fonts: most pages load fonts from Google, which sees your IP address.
What the server keeps
- AI replies for 24 hours, so asking about the same poem twice doesn't cost twice. Colours made for a described background are kept for 30 days.
- A count of AI requests per IP address, to stop abuse and keep costs capped. It's a number, not your poems.
-
A daily count of which features get used, such as how many browsers
opened the Library today. Your browser sends a feature's name at
most once a day, with nothing that identifies you or your poems. To
count writers who come back, your browser also keeps the day it
first opened each workshop, until you clear this site's data. That
date never leaves your device: all it sends is that you came back a
week or more later, in the same way. If your browser sends Global
Privacy Control, or you turn counting off here, it does none of this.
- Vercel, which hosts the site, keeps ordinary server logs. Its analytics count page visits without cookies.
There are no accounts and no tracking cookies, and your poems are never sold or shared.
